A wide diversity of plant life at the jardins du Luxembourg
The jardins du Luxembourg, are located on a 23-hectare plot, 21 of which are open to the public. This park features flower beds and wooded areas with nearly 3000 trees that line the alleys and provide shade, in addition to no less than 35,000 shrubs. Greenhouses, orchards and apiaries are also present, as well as a hundred statues of princesses, queens, animals, famous people and figures from Greek mythology that serve as a reminder of the park’s noble origins. Regardless of your tastes, you won’t be disappointed by a stroll in the park.
jardins du Luxembourg : a little history…
Created on the request of Marie de Medici, the park that would become the jardins du Luxembourg was intended for the young prince Louis XIII, for his wild boar hunting parties. The park was later enlarged with the acquisition of a 26-hectare lot from the Chartreux convent, the gardens underwent several remodels over the years, making it possible to enjoy this part of our history in present times.
